How It Works

Help us make Cheyenne a more beautiful place

Adding trees to our public rights-of-way and boulevards is an important part of helping keep Cheyenne beautiful! But, how does this whole process work? In order to be able to plant a tree at your residential property, your home must be within the city limits of Cheyenne and have the room available to do so. Right now, we only offer trees to residential properties.

You might be saying, “that all sounds wonderful… but what is the right-of way? And how do I know if there’s room in my right-of-way for a tree?”

What is the public right-of-way?

In the simplest terms as it relates to planting trees, public right-of-way refers to the grassy area either between the road and the sidewalk (detached) or the area between the sidewalk and your property (attached.) Check out the graphic below to better understand where the public right-of-way exists and for a more detailed explanation watch our informational video.
