Adding trees to our public rights-of-way and boulevards is an important part of helping keep Cheyenne beautiful and provides numerous benefits to our community as a whole! But how does the process work? Your residence must be within the city limits of Cheyenne and have space available in order for us to plant a tree at your home.

What is the public right-of-way?
In the simplest terms as it relates to planting trees, public right-of-way refers to the grassy area either between the road and the sidewalk (detached) or the area between the sidewalk and your property (attached.) Where can I plant my trees?
After receiving your application, we will visit your residence to ensure your requested planting location is the best placement for your trees. But here are some specifications to use when deciding on your planting location:
At least 20’ from other trees
25’ from stop signs
10’ from fire hydrants
6’ behind attached sidewalks
8’ from water meters/pits, driveways, and alleyways
Centered within tree lawns/planters

The Rooted in Cheyenne Process
Throughout our process, we’ll use email to stay in contact with you and keep you updated on what is happening.
Complete our application by clicking the “Apply Now” button below.
Your application will be reviewed and processed. If we have any questions, we will give you a phone call.
We will then visit your residence and assess the requested planting location and the surrounding area. Ensuring there are no obvious signs of conflicts and qualifying your residence for our program.
Upon the approval of your application, an email will be sent with instructions on how to choose your trees and provide payment. Trees are $50 each and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Click here to learn about our free tree program for qualifying Cheyenne homeowners.
Approximately two weeks prior to planting day, we will revisit your residence to finalize the planting location and submit a utility locate request with 811.
Once we receive positive confirmation from all utility companies in the area, we will make a final visit to your residence and ensure there are no utility conflicts and that the placement of your trees is in accordance with city ordinances.
On planting day, a group of volunteers will arrive at your residence to plant your trees and review proper tree care with you.
We do not warranty trees or offer refunds after planting. We do the best to ensure the survival of all trees planted and encourage all homeowners to visit our education page for tree care information.
