Tree Planter

Join us for a planting day!

You’ll arrive as a volunteer and leave as part of a team that is helping put roots down across Cheyenne—one tree at a time.

What to expect on planting day

Whether you’re planting your first tree or your fiftieth, our planting events are designed to be fun, welcoming, and rewarding. No prior tree planting experience is required—we’ll teach you everything you need to know.

Volunteers will meet at the Cheyenne Urban Forestry Shop in the morning to check in, grab breakfast, meet fellow volunteers, and receive a Rooted in Cheyenne event t-shirt and safety gear. After a brief welcome and safety overview, volunteers will be divided into planting crews led by experienced green industry professionals, Urban Forestry staff, and Rooted in Cheyenne Board Members.

Each crew will travel to planting locations throughout Cheyenne, where you’ll learn industry standard tree planting practices and work together to plant trees that will benefit our community for generations. Expect a mix of digging, lifting, mulching, watering, and teamwork. Don’t worry if you’ve never planted a tree before—our crew leaders will guide you every step of the way.

  • Wear weather-appropriate clothing, layers are highly recommended
  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and reusable water bottles are encouraged
  • Gloves and other necessary supplies will be available

Most importantly, expect to leave tired, dirty, and proud. By the end of the day, you’ll have helped create a greener, healthier, and more beautiful Cheyenne while connecting with neighbors who share a passion for making a difference.

Rooted in Cheyenne has planted more than 2,000 trees since 2017, and every volunteer plays a vital role in growing that legacy.
